E’en Aristotle, Wisest of the Greeks,<\/p>\n
the great philosopher of ancient days,<\/p>\n
upon first hearing a fair maiden speak<\/p>\n
forgot his wisdom and his noble ways.<\/p>\n

This maid, who did hear Aristotle chide<\/p>\n
his student for his love-struck actions, then<\/p>\n
by trickery the Master she did ride<\/p>\n
to demonstrate love’s power over men.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
So, if I seem a fool for writing verse,<\/p>\n
or fawning o’er a love that’s newly met,<\/p>\n
your beauty could make men do much that’s worse.<\/p>\n
I’ll fear no scorn, the precedent’s been set.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
If Aristotle, how e’er wise, did fall,<\/p>\n
then none, for love, can blame me after all.<\/p>\n
